Group Pomanjou, one of France’s leading apple producers, has announced the acquisition of Les Vergers Launay, a grower, packer and shipper based inSaint-Paterne-Racan in the Indre-et-Loire department in central France.
According to Pomanjou’s Gilles de Puineuf, the merger will allow bothcompanies to build a strongfuture based on operational synergies.
Les Vergers Launay, a specialist on the French marketthanks to its wide range of packaging options and apple varieties,will be able to offer its customers an even broader assortment, with Pomanjou’s HoneyCrunch andJuliet varieties.
Meanwhile, Pomanjou will benefit from the addition of Choupette to its range, a variety pioneered by Les Vergers Launay president James Launay.
Pomanjou will provide its export experience, while the geographical spread of its subsidiaries, Cardell, Pominter, Comimpex and Pomanjou International, will offer Les Vergers Launay a chance to extend the marketing period for its current product range.
According to de Puineuf, the companies will work closely together to identify technical improvements that can be made, especially when deciding on tree growing methods, including between arching the branches and growing against a wall.
