Kroger Central Division has announced that it is planning to invest in the expansion of its operation in Indiana in the US, including the construction of new stores and the remodelling of others.

An investment of over US$75m is expected to help create more than 250 jobs in the northeast of the state over a three-year period, the Progressive Grocer reported.

The move is the latest step in Kroger's Indiana investment, following the acquisitions of Owen's (1998), Hilander (1998), Pay Less (2000) and Scott's Food and Pharmacy (2007).

The group currently operates around 2,600 grocery stores, 800 convenience stores and 42 food-manufacturing plants among other outlets.
