Kroger reported its 40th consecutive quarter of sales growth with a 3.5 per cent increase in same store sales for the third quarter of 2013. The Cincinnati-based retailer said the produce and natural food categories had performed particularly well.
“Its not simply the scorecard that makes this meaningful, although 10 full years without skipping a beat is extraordinary,” said chairman and CEO David Dillon. “For retailers, identical sales are the strongest indication of whether or not we are connecting with customers over time.”
Rodney McMullen, president, COO and director, said sales had been positive company-wide. “These gains confirm that our customer first investments in our products are working as intended and creating sustainable competitive advantages for Kroger,” he said.
