Kroger is reportedly to develop a Fresh Fare store in Dayton, Ohio, when it closes its existing supermarket for renovations.

The store will close on 1 February for renovations, and will remain closed until the summer, but no completion date has been set as yet, according to a report by the Dayton Business Journal.

The revamp will mark Kroger’s second Fresh Fare outlet in southwest Ohio, alongside an existing store in the retailer’s hometown of Cincinnati, and will offer an expanded perishables section, more chef-prepared meals, a wine cellar and wine-tasting area, and a coffee shop.

The company said no further Fresh Fare stores are planned in the near future, with Kroger spokeswoman Rachel Betzler explaining to the Dayton Business Journal that the retailer “wanted to get a little feedback, see how it goes.”

The first Fresh Fare concept store appeared under Kroger’s Ralphs banner in Los Angeles, which was followed by store openings in Michigan, Ohio, and Georgia.

Kroger operates over 2,400 supermarkets and multi-department stores in 31 US states.
