Kuehne + Nagel (K+N) has agreed to take over the client list of Canadian freight forwarder Perishables International Transportation (PIT) as part of its strategy to expand global activities in perishable logistics.
Established in 1991, PIT specialises in handling and transportation of fresh and frozen perishable goods.
According to a K+N media release, PIT’s location at the cargo area of Vancouver International Airport provides access to all major airlines allowing for later cut-offs and shorter transit times for products such as fruits, vegetables and seafood. PIT, with its small but highly capable team, is considered to be the leading player in the perishables logistics segment in British Columbia, stated the media release.
“Following the general expansion of our perishables logistics business in Australia, Europe and South America, the acquisition of Perishables International Transportation allows us to grow these activities in North America,” K+N International Executive Vice President of Air Logistics Tim Scharwath said. “The timing of this transaction ahead of the peak season is ideal and will also strengthen our position in the Canadian airfreight market.”
