Kingston & Associates Marketing has announced in a press release that the US company will begin marketing Hass avocados from Peru for the 2012 season.

Under a deal with its strategic grower-partnerships, the first shipments will arrive in the US market in late June and continue through the end of August.

Kingston said the move represents another “customer-driven expansion” of its tropical import business and will complement its growing pineapple and mango programmes.

“We are excited to expand our working relationships with our growers in Peru but even more excited to help them establish the marketing of this relatively new programme here in the United States,” said Kingston president, Ken Nabal.

The majority of the avocado volume will channel through south Florida where Kingston owns and operates a state-of-the-art coldstorage facility in Pompano Beach, the company noted.

“Our close proximity to the ports of entry in South Florida as well as our strategically located facility, Kingston Cross Dock and Cold Storage, in Pompano Beach, gives us a distinct advantage for distribution in to the Southeast,” said owner, Dave Kingston.

'Between our relationships and ‘eyes’ on the ground in Peru, quality assurance and food safety team at our storage facility in Florida, and even our trucks in the southeast, we are able to monitor quality and control all aspects of the supply chain,” Kingston added.

“This ‘value-added’ approach maintains the highest quality and helps achieve our number one goal – serving our customers safe, wholesome, delicious food.”

In addition, Kingston said the firm will also explore arrivals into the US northeast market where the firm recently announced the opening of a new sales office in Cincinnati to serve as a strategic hub in the expansion of its Costa Rican pineapple and other tropical import programmes.

Kingston & Associates Marketing is one of the largest US-based distributors and marketers of fresh produce including potatoes, onions, lettuce, broccoli and sweet pineapples, among other items.
