The Port of Los Angeles has released its December 2013 cargo volumes, revealing that overall volumes increased 11.1 per cent on the same month of 2012.
According to the port, the increase was due in part to shippers moving cargo in advance of the Chinese New Year, which this year falls on 31 January.
Imports increased 8.63 per cent, from 296,874 Twenty-Foot Equivalent (TEU) containers in December 2012 to 322,500 TEUs this December.
Exports jumped 16.85 per cent, from 147,417 TEUs to 172,261 TEUs in December 2013.
For calendar year 2012, total container volumes (7.87m TEUs) decreased 2.59 per cent compared with 2012 (8.01m TEUs).
