Market researcher Kantar Worldpanel has released its latest UK grocery retail market report for the three-month period ended mid-June, with figures revealing the positive impact that the Queen's diamond jubilee celebrations had on sales.

For the 12 weeks ended 10 June, sales were up 3.2 per cent on the same period of 2011, aided by an additional £214m (€267m) coming through the tills for the week ended 3 June, Reuters reported.

In terms of the market leading retailers, Tesco saw its share drop by 0.4 percentage points to 31 per cent despite year-on-year sales growth of 1.8 per cent, while second-placed Asda saw sales grow 3.5 per cent for a stable market share of 17.2 per cent.

Sainsbury's saw a boom in sales of 4.2 per cent, pushing up its market share by 0.2 per cent to 16.6 per cent, while Morrisons' market share fell 0.4 per cent to 11.8 per cent overall.

Discounters Aldi and Lidl saw sales growth of 24.7 per cent and 11.1 per cent respectively, pushing up market share by 0.5 per cent and 0.2 per cent.
