J.O.Sims Ltd, a major UK supplier of fresh cherries, has announced that it has agreed a logistics contract with supply chain specialist Gist for the transport of cherries and other fresh fruit to several multiple retailers.

In addition, it has been revealed that Gist is also renting space within J.O.Sims’ temperature-controlled warehouse in Spalding, in the east of England, to cater for its expanding list of customers in the fresh produce sector.

“Our fresh fruit business is very seasonal, and traditionally we had clear peaks with gaps,' said Darren Crook, operations director at J.O.Sims. 'With the addition of warehouse automation we have more production time and space and can now offer third party services.

'Gist and J.O.Sims have a flexible relationship, where Gist is both a supplier, delivering transport for our fresh fruit, and a customer now they are using warehouse space for more of their customers,' he noted.

Martin Gwynn, chief executive at Gist, added: “This is an excellent example of how Gist develops flexible and win-win relationships with its customers.”
