Dutch retailer Super de Boer has announced that group CEO and chairman of the board of management, Jan Brouwer, has resigned from his position.
The announcement followed news that the Dutch Competition Authority had given the group's proposed sale to Jumbo the green light.
'After having built a healthy and profitable Super de Boer, I am pleased that we can combine our strengths with Jumbo,' Mr Brouwer said in a statement. 'I face the future of building a new combination with confidence. I am grateful to all employees of Super de Boer for their faith and confidence in me as well as their enormous efforts over the past years.
'After having managed two listed companies for the past 14 year, I will now take the time to consider my future plans,' he added.
Gary Lubsen, chairman of the supervisory board of Super de Boer, thanked Mr Brouwer for his contribution in turning the group around and wished him luck for the future.
Subject to approval by its general meeting of shareholders, which is due to be held tomorrow (8 December), the transaction is expected to be completed on 18 December 2009.
On the basis that the transaction does indeed go through on this date, Mr Brouwer will remain available for Super de Boer until 31 March 2010.
