In the first six months of 2010, Israeli ports handled 1.16m TEU, compared with 990,000 TEUduring the same period last year, according to data from the port directorate at the Ministry of Transport.
This represents an increase of 16.8 per cent, with the port of Haifa handling some 631,000 TEU and Ashdod 526,000 TEU, Port2Port reported.
In tonnage terms, Israeli ports handled a total of 20.9m tonnes in the first half of the year, a rise of 21.5 per cent over the year-earlier period.
