Israeli avocados are in high demand, and the industry will see increased exports this year as a result.
That was the verdict of Itzik Cohen, chief executive of the Israel Fruit Growers Association, who told non-profit organisation Israel21c that demand was growing every year.
'There is an increase in demand every year,' he told the group. 'Israeli farmers can't keep up with demand.'
Cohen added that the country exported some 60,000 tonnes of avocados last year, while exports should rise even further in 2016. Indeed, the Israeli Agriculture International portal said production would come in at 100,000 tonnes this year, with 70 per cent of that crop going for export.
'2016 looks like it will be a very good year for business,' Cohen confirmed.
