The latest set of Irish grocery retail market share figures have been released by industry analyst Kantar Worldpanel, with Tesco, Supervalu and discounters Aldi and Lidl enjoying growth.
According to Kantar, Tesco saw market share growth of 3 per cent for the 12-week period ended 5 August, up to 28.8 per cent, despite an overall fall in the Irish grocery market of 0.9 per cent in the past year.
Dunnes, the second-largest retailer by market share, saw a year-on-year drop of 5.5 per cent, Kantar reported, down to 21.6 per cent, while Superquinn saw a major drop of 9.2 per cent to an overall share of 5.5 per cent.
SuperValu performed well, by contrast, with its share up 0.3 per cent to 19.6 per cent, while German discounters Aldi and Lidl saw gains of 25.2 per cent and 2.2 per cent respectively.
