The world's largest paper and forest products company International Paper will go into this year's Fruit Logistica with a focus on the theme 'Corrugated packaging – still the natural choice'.
One of Europe's leaders in fresh fruit and vegetable packaging, the group will present its latest innovations at the Berlin event, such as a unique from-field-to-shelf cauliflower tray and a transport and storage tray for bulk peppers.
'Today's customers are ever more demanding for better packaging solutions which are more sustainable, offering high-quality graphics printing and help eliminate waste from the supply chain,' said Greg Gibson, vice-president and general manager of International Paper's European corrugated packaging operation. 'So we developed several innovative solutions, including for packaging cauliflowers and bulk peppers.'
The cauliflower box, which was originally designed for a customer based in France, can be used to package produce directly after harvesting in the field, trasnporting it to supermarkets and ultimately displaying it on the shelves.
Meanwhile, the tray for the transport and storage of bulk peppers offers customers significant logistics and branding advantages over traditional material, according to International Paper.
'At International Paper, we are proud to offer a unique service to each of our customers by understanding their specific needs and building solutions to meet those needs', Mr Gibson noted. 'Our packaging solutions are designed to maximise product safety, design functionality and supply chain efficiency while minimising the impact on the environment.
'Ultimately, our success is underpinned by our ability to operate locally, providing local service, and at the same time to marry that with International Paper's global capabilities,' he added.
Visitors to Fruit Logistica on 9-11 February are invited to meet International Paper representatives and discuss individual corrugated packaging solutions at stand A-06 in Hall 4.2 of the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.
