Intermarché

French retailer Intermarché has decided to follow in the footsteps of Carrefour and open a chain of smaller inner-city stores, measuring 400-1,000m2, under the banner Intermarché Express.

In the next few weeks, according to the group, three new Express outlets will open in Lille, Toulouse and Nice, and a suitable spot is currently being sought in Paris.

“The idea is to have small supermarkets in town centres, which will attract a clientele that gets around by foot and is often pressed for time,” explained Eric Mozas, president of Intermarché.

By the end of the year, the retailer hopes to have a total of around 35 Intermarché Express stores in town centres throughout the country.
