Innovia Films, the film specialist with offices in the UK, US, Australia and Belgium, has launched its first range of 'breathable' biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film – PropaFresh P2G and P2GAF.
The new non-perforated P2G film allows the company to specifically tailor the rate at which oxygen and carbon dioxide are able to migrate in and out of a pack of produce through the film itself, helping to extend the shelf-life of prepared fresh-cut produce.
PropaFresh P2GAF, a sister product to P2G, has been developed to provide anti-mist properties.
'Being able to extend the shelf-life of fresh produce, even for just two or three days, is extremely valuable not only for producers, retailers and consumers, but also for the environment,' said Clare McKeown, European group market manager of fresh and chilled foods. 'The advances we have achieved in polymer technology by developing PropaFresh P2G and P2GAF mean we are able to work with the majority of players in the fruit and vegetable arena to ensure the absolute optimum in-pack conditions for their products.'
Benefits to the customer of using both PropaFresh P2G and P2GAF include heat sealability on both sides, printability, strong seal integrity, food contact approval and peelable seals for easy opening.
'Delivering improved shelf-life is also key to reducing food waste and fits in with the Waste and Resources Action Programme's 'Love Food, Hate Waste' campaign, which recommends consumers keep prepared fresh produce in the original packaging and refrigerate,' Ms McKeown added.
