The focus will once again be on outstanding innovations in the fresh produce industry at Fruit Logistica 2009 as the event invites applications for the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award.
The award, backed by event organiser Messe Berlin along with Fruchthandel Magazin, is presented for exceptional innovations in the fruit and vegetable business and related sectors, honouring products or services that break new ground.
Of the innovations submitted, an expert panel of judges will select the ten best to go forward and gain special recognition at Fruit Logistica 2009. The selected products or services will be prominently displayed in a special exhibition area, with all visitors to the event able to vote over the first two days for their innovation of the year.
The winner will be honoured at an official award ceremony on 6 February 2009, the last day of the event.
Previous winners of the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award include Nunhems Netherlands' 'Intense' tomatoes (2008), 'Vitamini's' vegetable snacks from the FresQ/Rainbow Growers Group (2007) and Rijk Zwaan's 'Salanova' lettuce (2006).
The competition is open to all companies exhibiting at Fruit Logistica 2009 that have introduced an innovation to the market since 1 November 2007, with applications accepted until 28 November 2008.
