The Produce Marketing Association’s (PMA) 2010 Fresh Summit International Convention & Exposition, taking place on 15-18 October in Orlando, the US, will offer a range of networking, education and business building opportunities to meet the specific needs of attendees visiting from outside the US.

This year’s Fresh Summit expo will bring together about 18,500 attendees from 50 countries, the organisation said, allowing buyers and sellers from around the world to connect directly under one roof.

Innovations in produce packaging will be on display in the Hall C Lobby; the products on display are finalists in PMA’s 2010 Impact Award programme for excellence in packaging.

This year’s educational programme will include the new Food Safety Solutions Centre, sponsored by Famous Software LLC, which features a dedicated area on the expo floor to showcase food safety business solutions along with live demonstrations and videos related to food safety technology in the areas of packaging, traceability, processing equipment, product testing, water purification and more.

Additionally, industry experts, including PMA food safety expert Dr Bob Whitaker and supply chain efficiencies expert Ed Treacy, will be on hand to answer questions and lead in facilitated discussion groups to explore business solutions.

One session will focus on water shortages, a common challenge to the produce industry in various locations around the world, with a panel of experts set to discuss various water management techniques and constructive steps that can be taken to deal with a shortage.

The 592,000ft2 exhibition is set to feature more than 900 exhibiters from across the world.

PMA and leaders of Chile’s produce industry also recently gathered for a meeting of the PMA Chile Country Council in Santiago.

A record 250 industry members from Chile met in Santiago on 26 August for the fourth Fresh Connections: Chile event.

Delegates learned of new issues and trends impacting the industry, networked with key industry contacts, and gathered ideas and strategies to help keep their businesses going strong.
