Fourteen horticultural products have been granted simplified entry into Indonesia’s port of Jakarta form South Africa until 11 April 2021.
The products granted are apples, apricots, cherries, citrus, grapes, grapefruit, lemons, nectarines, oranges, peaches, pears, pomelos, plums and prunes.
'This extension will translate into the mentioned exported agricultural commodities being subjected to monitoring only, instead of the conducting of verification inspections and checks on each and every consignment exported to Indonesia,' said a statement from the Government Communication Information System (GCIS).
Exporters will be allowed to use the Port of Jakarta, Tanjung Priok, which is located close to the main Jakarta market. This will reduce the cost of transport and ensure freshness for exported produce.
Business Report stated that Indonesian authorities have expressed their appreciation of South Africa’s continuous efforts to guarantee the safety of horticultural products exported.
