Paganini Bella Vita brand

Paganini Foods, the New Jersey-based fresh produce importer, has this month filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after court documents revealed that it had between 100 and 199 creditors, assets of zero to US$50,000 and liabilities of over US$1m but equal to or less than US$10m.

According to The Packer, the group filed for bankruptcy protection on 1 February 2010 in the US Bankruptcy Court in New Jersey.

Founded in 2002 by Celso Paganini, the company imported a range of fresh produce from Italy including kiwifruit, grapes, lemons and Sicilian red oranges.

Fruit sold by the group was marketed under the Bella Vita brand name, with its Mediterranean Pleasures marketing campaign covering radio, television, point-of-sale materials and trips to Italian production regions.
