International logistics service provider IFCO has revealed that it is introducing new additions to its existing portfolio of reusable plastic containers (RPCs) for commodities including bananas and strawberries.

Each of the new containers is specifically designed to meet the unique needs of the product, IFCO said, ensuring higher quality at the retail store and greater supply chain efficiencies.

According to the group, its new RPC for bananas protects better than traditional packaging and provides faster cooling and better temperature management for fruit ripening and freshness at retail display, as well as an ergonomic design and secure stacking.

IFCO is the first company to commercially introduce an RPC designed to address the unique needs of strawberries, within the industry standard 60cm by 40cm footprint, with its berry RPC facilities faster cooling and protecting better than alternatives, the group explained.

'We tested the new 6408N RPC extensively, from field harvesting to cooling to loading and distribution centre receipt,' said Anthony Gallino, vice-president of sales at California Giant Berry Farms. 'The collaborative effort between CalGiant, IFCO and retail resulted in a very positive startup with early shipments a real success.'
