IAG Cargo has added two new routes connecting Europe with Latin America, bringing its total number of Latin American destinations to 16. From 1 September, the carrier will operate four flights a week from its cargo hub in Madrid to Montevideo in Uruguay and five weekly flights between Madrid and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
The route will employ Iberia Airbus A330 and A340-300 aircraft, with each flight offering a capacity of between 9.4 and 12.7 tonnes on the Madrid-Santo Domingo route and 6.5 and 11.7 tonnes on the Madrid-Montevideo service.
Rodrigo Casal, vice president for Latin America at IAG Cargo, said the additions would boost the company’s ability to connect global businesses with key markets and provide important trade connections that will help support global economic growth.
“We see this service being particularly important for perishable producers looking to supply European countries and Asian manufacturers looking for routes into Latin America,” he said.
