Hungary has not been able to avoid the impact of spring frosts that have hit much of mainland Europe's fresh fruit and vegetable production.
According to Béla Mártonffy, head of the country's fruit grower association FruitVeB, as much as 40-50 per cent of various Hungarian fruit crops may have been destroyed by the frosts, MTI-Econews reported.
Stonefruit, including apricots, cherries, peaches and plums, have been hardest hit, he noted.
It follows similar conditions in 2011, Martonffy added, when 25-30 per cent of last year's fresh fruit crop was destroyed by spring frosts, although this year's weather has impacted a greater proportion of the country.
