Around 2,500 schoolchildren in Huelva have benefited from this year’s Fresayunando food education programme, organised by berry cooperative Cuna de Platero.
This is the fifth year that the Moguer-based soft fruit company has run the campaign, which provides berries to local schools, accompanied by information on healthy eating, exercise and caring for the environment.
“After five editions we can say that this is a programme that local schools and their students look forward to year after year,” said Cuna de Platero’s managing director Juan Báñez.
This year, for the first time, the campaign invited participating schools to organise “Fruit Olympics”, giving children a chance to get involved in a range of different sports.
The cooperative once again counted on the support of Cajamar Caja Rural, Spain’s leading rural savings bank and credit union.
Blanca García of Cajamar in Moguer said the bank was happy to support educational projects that are beneficial to the environment and promote healthy habits for life.
“It is essential that children, from a very early age, learn about the importance of a good diet and regular exercise to help them lead healthy lives,” said María ángeles Batista, coordinator of the Fresayunando programme.
