Honduran grapefruit suppliers are reportedly gearing up to ship 800 containers of the fruit to Europe this season.
The trade will bring welcome foreign currency into the country, as well as provide greater employment and returns for growers, according to a local news report.
The Honduran grapefruit sector expects to produce around 900,000 cartons of red grapefruit this year.
Around 60 per cent of the export crop will be shipped to France, with the remaining 30 per cent and 10 per cent distributed among other European nations and Canada respectively.
