Germany-based container shipping group Hamburg Süd has announced that it is replacing its Costa Container Lines (CCL) brand with its own Hamburg Süd name in a bid to better present itself as a unified brand.

The move, which will come into effect on 1 January 2009, is part of an attempt to harmonise all operations, exploit synergies and achieve added value for consumers, the company said.

'The change of name will be accomplished with the assurance of absolute continuity,' the group said in a statement. 'Customers will be dealing with the same contacts and can reach them at the same postal and email addresses, telephone and fax numbers.'

Hamburg Süd acquired the liner operations of Costa Container Lines in December 2007. CCL is an established name with regards to trade between the western Mediterranean and South America's east and north coasts, as well as between the east coast of South America and Mexico/the Caribbean.
