Severe hail and thunderstorms hit eastern Belgium last week, leading to fears of major hail damage to the region's pear orchards.
Marc Evrard of auction Belgische Fruitveiling (BFV) said that the storm took everyone by surprise.
'It was quite unexpected,' he told Fruitnet.com. 'We are currently gathering the data to assess the situation. The hail has caused some damage, but we don't yet know the extent.'
