Hapag Lloyd

Hapag-Lloyd, OOCL and NYK, which form the Grand Alliance (GA), have revealed that they have unanimously agreed to move their Pacific northwest operations to the Port of Tacoma in Washington.

According to the group, it has opted for Tacoma over the Port of Seattle, which the Alliance has been a 'longtime supporter of' – a decision reached after extensive deliberation.

'The decision was not easy as both port offerings were very competitive,' the Grand Alliance said in a statement. 'The GA's new home will be at the Washington United Terminal (WUT) in Tacoma.'

The Grand Alliance will have three Pacific northwest services calling weekly at the terminal, with the GA receiving strong support from labour, WUT Terminal management and the Port of Tacoma which have all committed to making the service an attractive option for the shipping public.

'With all the local support the GA believes it will be a priority choice for the Pacific northwest service for many years to come,' the group said.
