Euro Pool System, a major supplier of returnable packaging to the European fresh produce business, has announced the appointment of Gerjo Scheringa as its new chief executive.
Scheringa will take up his new role on 1 August this year, replacing interim CEO Folkert Mulder, who has held the role since September 2013.
The news comes just one day after the unexpected announcement that Scheringa had left his role as managing director of Dutch group Zon Fruit & Vegetables after two years in the role.
Zon is an indirect shareholder in Euro Pool System, and Scheringa has been a member of Euro Pool's supervisory board since 1 June 2012.
“In view of the extensive experience of Gerjo Scheringa in the fruit and vegetable business, his experience as a supervisory board member of Euro Pool System and his track record in the FMCG business, it was decided to appoint him as CEO,' said Klaus Josef Lutz, chairman of the supervisory board. 'We are pleased with this appointment and wish Gerjo and his team success in the pursuance of further growth of Euro Pool System’s business.'
