George Hammond plc

UK-based cargo terminal operator and port stevedoring company George Hammond plc has announced the impending retirement of Brian Madderson on 31 October 2009, when he will reach his 65th birthday.

The announcement marks the end of two decades at the helm for Mr Madderson, during which time he has become a highly regarded and acknowledged expert in the specialised reefer shipping and logistics trades, particularly with relation to imports of fresh fruit.

'Mr Madderson has led the company as managing director since May 1989 with great skill, dedication and integrity,' commented non-executive chairman David Ryeland, who also confirmed that Mr Madderson will continue to offer support as a consultant, advising on market trends and opportunities in the sector.

He has also been appointed by the Retail Motor Industry Federation as non-executive chairman of the Petrol Retailers Association, where he will take office on 1 November 2009.

Meanwhile, James Ryeland and John Ryeland have been appointed joint managing directors of George Hammond plc with effect from the start of November 2009.

James will head up the group's Marine & Port Services division, while John will assume responsibility for Petrol Retailing & Administration.
