Ireland-based Banana giant Fyffes Group has successfully recertified to the Carbon Trust Standard, the company has announced.
According to a press release from the group, by continuing to measure, manage and reduce carbon emissions across its UK operations over the past two years, Fyffes has achieved a further reduction of 8 per cent.
The company was the first UK banana importer and distributor to be awarded the Carbon Trust Standard back in 2010, since which time it has honed its energy efficiency strategies to cut emissions by a further 880 tonnes of CO2 and equivalent greenhouse gases (CO2e).
UK brand manager Paul Barrett commented: “Recertifying to the Carbon Trust Standard has enabled us to identify new areas to increase carbon efficiency, bringing tangible cost savings to our operations. With our carbon reduction strategies now coming of age through recertification, we plan to continue to renew our commitment to tacking action on climate change.”
