For the sixth year running, Fyffes has announced that it is lending its backing to the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM), which takes place in Arlington, Va, on Sunday 28 October.
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM), known as “The People’s Marathon,” promotes physical fitness and generates community goodwill while showcasing the high standards and discipline of the United States Marine Corps.
Fyffes will again this year supply 30,000 bananas to participants crossing the finish line and, in conjunction with its commitment to global sustainability, will encourage runners to compost their peels in official Fyffes composting bins.
the company is also introducing its “What Fuels You?” interactive social-media initiative, created to inspire runners toward both the start and finish line for “The People’s Marathon.”
As they train in preparation for the 43rd annual MCM, Fyffes is asking runners to share their “What Fuels You?” stories to reveal what inspires them to complete the MCM running events.
The marathoners are encouraged to use the #FuelWithFyffes hashtag across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest in sharing their motives, with three winners to be awarded the value of their registration for this year’s MCM.
“During a marathon the human body is put to the ultimate test, but consider that the mind is the most powerful muscle in the body,” said Marion Tabard, vice-president of marketing for Fyffes North America. “Think of all the mental and emotional drive that spurs marathon training and performance: patriotism, familial inspiration, physical and mental challenges, workout goals, tributes to those who have fallen. By sharing on social media ‘What fuels you?’ with the #FuelWithFyffes hashtag, we all inspire fellow participants.”
