Chilean fruit exports are not being impacted by the latest strike to hit the Chilean Port of San Antonio, which entered its fourth day on Wednesday.
A source from Grupo Matte, the operator of the Costanera Espigón terminal at the heart of the walkout, said automobiles make up 75 per cent of the cargo handled at the terminal and remainder is bulk cargo.
According to a report in Estrategia Online, the current strike action involves only 10 per cent of the total cargo handled by the port and the other terminals are operating as normal.
DIego Silva, president of the union at the heart of the dispute, Fetraportces, previously told the Chilean press that the walkout would impact all cargo including containers, bulk products and fruit exports and could affect up to 35 per cent of cargo handled by the Puerto Central concession.
