The number of overseas visitors at the 2013 Fruit Attraction trade fair in Madrid increased by 61 per cent compared to last year, the show’s organisers said. Figures released by Ifema and Spanish exporter federation Fepex today reveal that some 5,300 people from 80 countries attended the show, of which more than two-thirds came from France, Italy, Portugal, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and Poland.
The number of overseas exhibitors also rose, with companies from France, Italy, the Netherlands and Portugal taking stands for the first time this year. Beyond Europe, Chile and Peru were first time exhibitors, joining Brazil and Argentina. In total around 35,000 people from 83 countries took part in the show, Fepex said, while exhibitor numbers rose 13 per cent to 674 exhibitors from 16 countries.
Fepex said the new B2BFruit New Markets meeting area had proved particularly successful, attracting buyers from a number of emerging markets including the UAE, Russia and Brazil.
