Last week’s frost which hit Argentina’s blueberry-producingregion of Tucumán is expected to cut the country’s output by approximately 500tonnes this season, according to preliminary estimates from the ArgentineanChamber of Blueberry Producers (CAPAB).
The industry was anticipating a crop of 3,000 tonnes or morethis season from Tucumán, where many plantations do not have anti-frost systemsin place, an industry source told Fruitnet.com.
In Entre Ríos, meanwhile, many blueberry plantationsreportedly already benefit from anti-frosts systems.
Argentina’s 2009/10 blueberry crop is still in its firststage of flowering and provided there are no further severe frosts during thenext month, local sources claim the industry can expect good yields.
