Regional and national government pledge to support sector on critical issues
Huelvan berry association Freshuelva used visits by various government representatives to its stand at this week’s Fruit Attraction to share concerns ahead of the new production season.
During a visit by agriculture minister Luis Planas to the as part of the fair’s inauguration, Freshuelva’s president, Francisco José Gómez, conveyed the urgency of solving the problems with region’s water infrastructures, labour availability and disinfection of the soils. Planas said he would make his ministry available to help producers in these matters of crucial importance for the sector.
Meanwhile, the Andalusian agriculture minister, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, committed to holding a meeting at Freshuelva’s headquarters with all the province’s agricultural organisations to address these issues.
Others to voice their support for the sector include David Toscano, president of the Provincial Council of Huelva, Alberto Santana, president of the Port of Huelva, and a number of regional politicians and mayors.
In all, Huelvan berry companies occupied around 1,000m2 with their stands at this year’s Fruit Attraction.
