Fresh Fruit Cuts is to expand its value-added product line by offering fresh-cut pears from July, along with de-stemmed grapes and multi-pack snack bag medleys. They are the latest addition to the Fresno, California-based company’s fresh-cut range, which also includes Woot Froot sliced peaches and nectarines.
The sliced pears are designed to appeal to today’s convenience driven consumer and will be available in 20oz trays, 14oz bags or 3oz individual bags with a 21-day shelf-life.
Company president Kim Gaarde explained that she adapted some of the findings and processing techniques from stonefruit and applied them to hard cut items like pears.
“The development and understanding of the challenges of processing stonefruit provided a great deal of insight into other items including pears, which have their own demands,” she said. “We are now able to produce items that others are working on, but have not yet mastered based on our unique processing knowledge that focus on quality to insure optimum flavour.”
The sliced pears will be available in retail stores staring in July coinciding with the new California season, and will have year-round availability. Additional products available in the Woot Froot line include sliced peaches and nectarines, red de-stemmed grapes and a portion packed fruit
