Spanish discount retailer Dia is to launch a new chain of stores called Dia fresh, following an initial trial of the concept in Madrid.
Dia Fresh will focus on fresh food items, including fruit and vegetables, meat, fish and a bakery, all in a self-service style, while also offering an extensive convenience selection.
According to Planet Retail, Dia is planning to launch 32 of the stores by the end of the year, with each outlet measuring 150m2.
The roll out will not be limited to Spain, with French publication Linéaires reporting that a Dia Fresh trial is slated for 2013 in Paris, France.
