Fresh-cut bio-preservation specialist Food Freshly introduced several new concepts for fresh-cut processors at this year’s Fruit Logistica in Berlin, offering solutions that can help companies lower their overall consumption of antioxidants.
“We are helping fresh-cut processors improve product quality, reduce costs and grow their sales,” explained Benjamin Singh, director of sales at Food Freshly. “We know that a lot of fresh-cut processors are overusing their antioxidants. As the concentration of our Freshness Retainers can be accurately tracked and measured, customers are able to achieve significant cost reductions.”
Food Freshly is also hoping to help fresh-cut processors grow their sales by launching new, innovative products for the fresh-cut snack sector. These include flavoured Freshness Retainers, products able to help attain 21 days of shelf life for apple snacks, while also adding natural flavour to the fruit slices. Indeed, grape and peach flavoured apples have already been successfully picked up by major retailer chains in Canada, the group noted.
“Our customers can achieve a significant increase in sales by adding flavoured apples and pears to existing apple snack ranges,” said Singh.
As part of this range, Food Freshly is planning on launching several new flavours including mango, strawberry, vanilla, milk chocolate, lychee, cherry and caramel over the coming months, while certain other flavours can be developed on demand – all designed for those processors producing apple and pear slices for retailers.
“The naturally flavoured snacks make regular apple and pear snacks more exciting which is why they are being picked up, especially by households with little children,” Singh continued.
For processors of tropical fruits, meanwhile, Food Freshly has developed O Plus bio-2, which effectively reduces micro bacteria on fruits including mangoes, pineapples and melons.
These fruits present a special challenge due to their tendency to grow bacteria, yeast and fungus at a fairly quick rate. O Plus Bio-2 – which is free of preservatives, GMOs and sulfites – is organic and improves overall food safety by preventing the growth of these organisms effectively.
