Fresh & Easy is remodelling its stores to make fresh produce more prominent, according to the Orange County Register.
Tesco's US subsidiary recorded a US$303m loss last year, but increased sales 38 per cent and wants to break even in the fiscal year 2012-13.
It will bring fresh produce to the front of its stores and introduce a fourth tier to the bins that feature fruit and vegetables.
Spokesman Brendan Wonnacott told Fresh & Easy customers to expect more seasonal fresh produce to appear in stores over the next few months.
Meanwhile, reports in UK daily newspaper The Guardian have suggested that Fresh & Easy is to trial a new Express-style convenience format in the country.
According to the publication, the new 3,000ft2 shops will be branded Fresh & Easy Express, with a spokesman noting that the stores will be similar to the successful British Express format, selling fresh fruit and vegetables as well as ready meals.
