Fresca has named José Coutinho as general manager of its Spanish operation. He will head up a team of four at the company’s Almeria office, covering all the main growing regions and with responsibility across all the group’s main Spanish products, namely salads, melons, citrus, grapes, stonefruit, berries and vegetables.

“Our UK-based teams at Thanet Earth, Mack, Primafruit, MMG Citrus and DGM Growers will all benefit from this new appointment,” the company said.

Coutinho has been working in the fresh produce industry for 20 years and was formerly with Wight Salads Group and Horticilha. His experience spans roles in growing, procurement and technical management – all skills that will be required in his new position Fresca said.

Speaking of his new role, Coutinho said: “This is a fantastic new challenge to lead and shape the team at Fresca Spain. I feel passionate about the opportunity that the British market offers for Spanish growers, linking the best growers with the market leader in the UK is the perfect place for me to be.”
