Fresca Group Ltd has confirmed the acquisition of Liverpool Produce Terminal Ltd (LPT).

TheUK produce giant, which already has Thanet Earth, ValeFresh and MMG Citrus in its portfolio of businesses, has bought out the purpose-built North West produce hub.

Fresca subsidiary Mack Multiples began using the port, which had faced a struggle getting off the ground, earlier this year and the acquisition will give the group some 90,000 square feet of land, a quayside terminal, four storage chambers, five receiving bays and nine loading bays.

Thefacility offers extensive opportunities for the group by virtue of its location, offering a new point of entry to the north of the country for fresh produce.

Mike Musk, group finance director at Fresca, said:“LPT offers us a modern facility in a key port. In addition to our existing operations, this acquisition gives us the opportunity to provide an improved, more efficient service to our customers and, in particular, to their northern estates.”

The £6 million quayside cool store, which initially found it hard to attract custom, was built by Peel Ports Group and acquired by Cold Move Ltd in July 2009.
