French salad producers have been severely affected by the E.coli outbreak in Europe, with sales of cucumbers falling by 70 per cent and tomato prices dropping by 40 per cent, according to Végétable.
In response, the national association of producer organisations for tomatoes and cucumbers has announced that it will be distributing cucumbers and tomatoes for free on 18 June on Paris's Champ de Mars.
The aim is to remind consumers that these products are high in quality, grown locally, produced using integrated pest management, and are completely traceable.
