The French government has revealed plans to offer help to fruit and vegetable growers, who have suffered severe losses during the current bout of cold weather, according to Le Figaro.
The minister of agriculture, Bruno Le Maire, said that the cost of the cold was “heavy for farmers, particularly in sectors that have already been affected by the crisis in 2009, such as milk producers and fruit and vegetable growers”.
According to Mr Le Maire, the ministry is considering the possibility of unblocking a national aid package that serves as insurance against agricultural disasters in order to provide growers with “concrete and rapid support”.
