FranceAgriMer, the national board for agriculture, has published the results of its annual study into fresh fruit and vegetable purchases by French households, noting a drop of 2.6 per cent for 2011.
Purchases of fresh fruit fell from 8,590.8kg per 100 households to 8,055.5kg in 2011, while the amount spent dropped from €16,837.60 to €16,045.50.
As for fresh vegetables, volumes fell from 8,173.6kg to 7,901.4kg, while value dropped from €16,772.20 to €15,450.
Meanwhile, the average price per kilogram for all vegetables fell from €2.05 to €1.96, not least due to a drop of 5.6 per cent in the frozen category.
