Lance Jungmeyer, a former editor of The Packer, is to join the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas (FPAA) as the organisation’s new president.
Mr Jungmeyer replaces outgoing president Jesse Driskill, who left the FPAA in November to become operations manager of the Nogales office of Meyer LLC.
Mr Jungmeyer said he is looking forward to addressing FPAA members’ concerns when he joins the organisation on 10 May.
“Issues include equitable treatment of produce from Mexico to ensuring that the US lives up to its NAFTA promise to ensure access for Mexican trucks to US roads,” he said. “There are a number of issues in the coming months.”
FPAA chairman Chris Ciruli, also a partner in Ciruli Bros. LLC, Nogales, said the association looked at more than 160 candidates and interviewed seven before choosing Mr Jungmeyer.
“He has the right background, the right connections,” explained Mr Ciruli.
Mr Ciruli said objectives for the first 90 days of Mr Jungmeyer’s tenure are to learn the association’s culture, travel with members into Mexico and see members’ operations in Mexico and the US.
