Two former directors of Dutch fresh produce marketer The Greenery have emerged from their period of gardening leave to form a new trading company called New Green.
Martin van der Sande and Leon Bol, both of whom departed The Greenery at the end of 2010, revealed they set up the business in early July, sourcing glasshouse vegetables from producers and supplying them to customers in the retail sector.
Based in Poeldijk, in the Netherlands, New Green is understood to be working with a number of contacts made during Van der Sande and Bol's time working for their former employer.
'We have been up and running for about four weeks,' they announced in a statement. 'We have trade on all sides and have been able to pick up many old contacts.'
The pair have devised a trading concept which they believe is of interest to growers to bring their produce to supermarket customers, Leon explained.
'Initially we will focus on the 'large' greenhouse vegetables, namely peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and aubergine,' he said. 'The focus will be on exports, both to Europe and overseas.'
Van der Sande previously worked as The Greenery's commercial director for sourcing, while Bol is a former sales director at the group.
