A new report published by the US-based Food Information Council Foundation has revealed that nearly 50 per cent of consumers continue to express confidence in the safety of the country's food supply.

While 47 per cent of respondents remain confident, the same figure for the past three years, the percentage of the population who claim that they are 'not confident' has fallen to just 18 per cent, down from 24 per cent in 2009.

The fifth annual report, called the 'Food and Health Survey', also asked consumers to discuss their weight, with 70 per cent saying that they were concerned about their weight status and 77 per cent claiming that they were trying to lose or maintain their weight.

As part of this, most Americans are trying to change the amount of food that they eat (69 per cent) while 60 per cent said they were trying to engage in more physical activity.
