Bayer CropScience China has launched a food chain partnership project with the Metro Group and its China-based subsidiary Star Farm at this year’s Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong.
According to a media release from Bayer CropScience, the aim of the project, which is based in Jiaxing in China’s Zheijiang province, is to produce and market high quality vegetables, such as tomatoes, cucumber and chilli peppers.
As the technical partner Bayer CropScience will provide farmers with crop protection products, high quality Nunhems seeds, and tailor-made customer services.
Star Farm will provide professional consulting services to farmers with farm-based assessment and training. In the next months, Bayer CropScience and Star Farm plan to set up new projects in China, the media release stated.
'We are convinced that the best way to ensure high food quality is to connect the dots - bringing farmers, food processors and retailers together in Food Chain Partnership projects,' said Dr Birgitt Walz-Tylla, head of food chain management at Bayer CropScience.
'For the benefit of our partners, we focus on increasing marketable yield, traceability and expanding marketing opportunities.'
The Asia Fruit Logistica is the only annual international trade exhibition for fresh fruit and vegetable marketing in Asia that focuses exclusively on the fresh produce sector and related value chain for the whole Asian region.
This important trade show takes place together with the Asiafruit Congress and combines the experience of Fruit Logistica, the world’s leading fresh produce exhibition, with Asia’s top international conference event.
