Florida citrus on tree

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has unveiled its May citrus crop forecast for the state of Florida, maintaining its orange crop estimate of 138m boxes for the 2012/13 campaign.

According to the USDA, Valencia yields remain steady a 71m boxes, with early-mid varieties coming in at 67m boxes.

However, the department raised the state's grapefruit estimate, up to 18.3m boxes from the previous forecast of 17m boxes.

Tangerines dropped to 3.4m boxes from the 3.5m boxes predicted last month, while tangelo volumes were flat at 1m boxes.
